Is High-Pressure Drain Jetting Always Necessary?

Drain jetting can be effective, but it is not the right solution for every blocked sink or damaged pipe.

Drain jetting can be effective, but it is not the right solution for every blocked sink or damaged pipe.

What jetting does

Specialist water jets can dislodge grease, silt and accumulated debris in suitable drains. Equipment, pressure and nozzle selection should be matched to the pipe.

Not every blockage needs it

An obstruction confined to the waste trap under a sink may be dealt with locally. An old fragile or badly damaged drain needs careful assessment before aggressive cleaning.

Why blockages return

Jetting removes material, but may not correct a broken joint, poor fall or recurring root ingress.

Check the quote

Ask what section will be cleaned, whether CCTV inspection is proposed and whether the quoted charge includes confirmation that flow is restored.

After clearance

If water still pools or the same section blocks again, further investigation may be more valuable than repeated cleaning.

Safety first: If sewage is entering your home, reduce use of connected fixtures, avoid contact with wastewater and arrange suitable help. Never enter a manhole or inspection chamber.
